This Viking boss was recreated from an archaeological find in the remains of a Scandinavian funeral boat.

The original piece comes from Groix island, off Lorient (FRANCE), discovered in 1906 and it's dated to the Xth century.

The umbo of steel will protect your shield in combat.

It is forged in a 2,5mm thickness steel sheet, what confers him a resistance on the impacts more important than the classic umbos.

Hand-made in the forge by hot hammering.

Rivets holes are made.

The umbo is supplied with 16 mm and 20mm length rivets .

Tips of assembly :

Locate the definitive location of the umbo on your shield then mark the location of holes by means of a pencil.

Drill holes by means of a drill of Ø 5mm.

Place the umbo on the shield and put rivets in holes.

Rivets have to exceed square washers about 2mm.

Turn back your shield, then put square washers on the tails of rivets.

Proceed to buck rivets in way to come to crush them on the square washers.

The square washers will allow you to obtain an optimal solidity of your assembly, by making an interface between rivets and the wood of the shield.
